RESEARCH STUDY OF STUDENTS WITH MENTAL ILLNESS
Michael McCue, J.D., doctoral student at Michigan State University’s Higher Adult, and Lifelong Education program needs second- and third-year law students who have been diagnosed with mental illness for a research study. Participation in this study may help future law students with mental illness find ways to succeed in law school. Study participants must be currently enrolled as a 2L or 3L, be diagnosed with a mental illness; and, currently receiving treatment. Participation in the study is confidential and participants will be identified with a pseudonym. The process consists of three interviews of approximately 1-hour each. EXPOSITORY BIBLE CLASS
Anyone interested in learning the methodology and mechanics of the Bible are invited to attend Professor Jeffrey Addicott’s “Bible Class”. The classes are free and open to the public. Bible classes are held in the small conference room at the Center for Terrorism Law in the Raba building. Time: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. The classes cover individual books of the Bible using categorical, theological, and analytical teaching. Bring a pen and notebook. Please note this is a St. Mary’s University Housekeeping Division policy. This advance notice allows the Housekeeping Division to appropriately schedule staff, set-up and breakdown of your event. Work Orders received after this deadline will be accommodated when possible, however not guaranteed.

TOBACCO PRODUCTS
Smoking is prohibited in all law school buildings. Please refrain from the use of all tobacco products in the library and in the classrooms. Chewing tobacco, in particular, can stain furniture and carpets and the waste disposal process is distracting to others.

The National Law Review is hosting its 2014 Law Student Writing Contest with the winner's article to be published on the National Law Review website, the National Law Forum blog, and included in their October newsletter. The Intellectual Property Law Section of the State Bar of Texas announces the 2014 Women and Minority Scholarship. Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to a woman and/or minority law student. Any woman or member of a recognized minority group, including but not limited to African Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, and Native Americans who intends to practice IP law in the State of Texas, is eligible to apply. The scholarships will be awarded at the IP Section’s meeting during the 2014 State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting held in Austin. Applications must be postmarked no later than May 12, 2014. The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and American Bar Association Section of Labor and Employment Law announces their annual law student writing competition. Entries may address any aspect of public or private sector labor and/or employment law relevant to the American labor and employment bar. First place: $1500, second place, $1000 and third place is $500. Articles must be submitted by midnight (EDST) on May 15, 2014. Competition rules are available at www.laborandemploymentcollege.org. Energy Law Student Writing Competition, $700 cash prize. Write on any issue relating to energy law. Deadline to apply is May 16, 2014. The International Association of Defense Counsel invites you to participate in its 2014 Legal Writing Contest. First prize, $2,000, second prize is $1,000 and third prize is $500. Applications are now being accepted for the Sovereignty Symposium XXVII Ed Edmondson Scholarship. One-hundred (100) Symposium tuition only scholarships are being offered to attend the symposium on June 4-5, 2014 at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel, Oklahoma City, OK. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in and dedication to Native American law issues and the need for scholarship in a simple letter of application. There is no formal application 6

The International Law Section of the State Bar of Texas is sponsoring the 2014 Texas Law Student Legal Writing Contest. Entries should address any area of international law. First place entry will be awarded $1,000 and $500 for second place. For more information please go to www.ilstexas.org. Entries must be received by May 31, 2014. The Tax Section of the State Bar of Texas annually awards up to three (3) $2,000 scholarships to students demonstrating academic excellence and commitment to the study and practice of tax law. Any student who intends to practice tax law in Texas is eligible to apply. Selection criteria of the scholarships include: merit, scholarship performance, financial need, and demonstrated experience and interest in the field of tax law. Applications must be postmarked or time stamped by no later than June 1, 2014. The Judge John R. Brown Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce the twentyfirst annual Brown Award to recognize Excellence in Legal Writing. This year the stipend for the winner is $10,000. Baker Donelson will award three scholarships to diverse law students who will complete their first year of law school by June 2014. Additionally, each recipient will be awarded $10,000 which will be paid prior to the student's third year of law school to help defray the cost of law school tuition and related expenses.
